This rare masterpiece is one of only six known paintings that can be fully attributed to the great artist ean le Clerc. He is renowned for his extensive work with the well-known Venetian master Carlo Saraceni in the first decade of the 17th century. Both le Clerc and Saraceni are known for their mastery of luminous nocturnal scenes. The Adoration of the Shepherds is one of the finest examples of this technique.
